Universal Insults – Serge Benhayon’s degradation of the ailing

Universal Medicine markets itself as a complementary medicine organization that promotes healthy living, however, the Esoteric healing services sold by cult leader Serge Benhayon glorify death and reincarnation at the expense of physical and mental health. A critical element of Benhayon’s Livingness death drive is magical thinking, where Esoterically correct thoughts and behaviour are rewarded with improved reincarnations, while the contrary are punished with disease and adversity. His writings show how Benhayon has borrowed from New Age mogul, Louise Hay’s book of moralistic magical thinking spells, and reveal his toxic attitudes to the sick, disabled and marginalized.

Moral judgement and Louise Hay’s business plan

Louise Hay, the author of ‘You Can Heal Your Life’ and its many offshoot products has created a multi-million dollar industry from damaging notions that disease arises from incorrect thinking, and can be cured by reciting affirmations and avoiding displeasing thoughts.

Being aware that cancer comes from a pattern of deep resentment that is held for a long time, until it literally eats away at the body, I knew I had a lot of work to do. (Hay, 1988, p.1)

She claims to have cured herself of cervical cancer without medical treatment, and none of her 35 million customers seem to care that she can’t provide evidence. The model of New Age success, Hay presides over a publishing empire built on promoting healing through self affirmation, where healing success is measured in book sales.

Hay insists that customers are able to control their lives with their thoughts.

The way to control your life is to control your choice of words and thoughts. (Hay, 1988, p.4)

It would be more reasonable to suggest that one’s choice of words and thoughts helps them control their responses to life, but typical of the New Age, the thoughts of individuals have the magical power of controlling the workings of the universe. Thoughts can both cause and heal serious disease, as well as influence unrelated events. We saw an example of this grandiosity when stalwart UM cult member, Jane Keep, told us her car copped a knock in a car park because she dropped her self loving self absorption for longer than her Esoteric selfishness could bear and delayed leaving work. If she’d been more ‘in truth’ she would have pissed off earlier and avoided a bent fender (but for all she knows, she might have been hit by a Mack truck on the freeway instead).

As powerful as thoughts are deemed by New Agers, intellect is deemed inferior to intuition. Unsurprisingly, Louise Hay has no higher education attainments or formal therapy qualifications and devised her bestselling magical thinking and affirmation plan not through research or clinical experience, but via channeling; a formula eagerly imitated by any number of underqualified New Age shysters since. The omnipotence of self they’re selling exonerates them from responsibility for lousy results, which are conveniently blamed on the ‘words and thoughts’ of the client. And if that doesn’t add up, there’s always the customers’ sinful past lives.

The following is a sample page of Hay’s simplistic list of the ‘probable causes’ of disease and her affirmation remedies.

Louise Hay, Heal Your Body, 1988, p.10

Louise Hay, Heal Your Body, 1988, p.10

She also writes that the ‘probable cause’ of cancer is Deep hurt. Longstanding resentment. Deep secret or grief eating away at the self. Carrying hatreds. (Hay, 1988, p.22)

Yet, logic deprived New Age platitudes don’t hold up to the reality test. It does not add up that every cancer patient is carrying hatred. Plenty of deeply hurt, hate carrying and grief stricken individuals don’t get cancer. Plenty live a long time in comparatively good health. Plenty of people hate themselves and don’t get acne. Some people long for love but have no aches. Need I go on? For those of us dealing with patients every day, such judgements are profoundly insulting to the ailing. They also dangerously minimize the complex causes of disease, and stigmatize the non feel good emotions, such as anger and grief, which are appropriate responses to many circumstances. Without anger, there is no justice, and people have no defence from exploitation. Without grief we can’t comprehend loss, and the value of precious things lost, such as life, or love, or health. And since when does any emotion occur in isolation – separate from a range of other emotions and responses?

Benhayon on the magical thinking bandwagon

Benhayon didn’t only adopt Alice Bailey’s theosophical package wholesale, but he took on Louise Hay’s list of sins as causes for disease, in some cases practically word for word. Hay lists the causes for breast disorders as a refusal to nourish the self. Putting everyone else first. Overmothering. Overprotection. Overbearing attitudes. (Hay, 1988, p.21)

Benhayon repeats:

We know breast cancer is out of control and energetically from an esoteric point of view this is caused by the lack of nurturing a woman has toward herself. Women, at best, are today great nurturers of others, but not of themselves! (Benhayon, 2006, p.249)

However, Benhayon takes New Age fundamentalism a step further. As explored in the post on disease development as a moral choice, rewards of health and good fortune for Esoteric good behaviour get little more than lip service. Universal Medicine is marketing death. It only offers ultimate redemption to paid up subscribers who deride their physical body and annihilate their human responses over enough lifetimes to discard their physical form and ascend into the Divine light of God. In the interim, the emphasis is on making everyone feel like shit. The focus is on moral judgement, condemning any emotional expression and any engagement in life as disease causing, and keeping followers dependent on healing sessions and workshops to clear their bottomless supply of loveless ‘prana in expression’.

Insulting the sick and marginalized

The following quotes reveal Benhayon’s repugnant judgements of disease and misfortune, and his condemnatory attitudes to those who don’t surrender to his perilous ‘Livingness’ cult and allegiance to its unisex Brotherhood of abuse deniers.

Apart from the derogatory nastiness, look out for the usual hallmarks of Benhayon bonkers: inaccurate medical language, simplistic notions of disease development, merciless and meritless Esoteric Karma, the Esoteric gender war, women with gyne disorders are lesser women and far flung supernatural balderdash.

Illness and disease are only markers. They are but mere reflections of our many choices. (Benhayon, 2011, p.586)

Esoterically a food intolerance is a reaction to a food based on where you are at in your energetic development — and an allergy is an intolerance that has been long ignored. Both are forms of healing and not a penance. (Benhayon, 2011, p.592)

An allergy to something is an ignored intolerance. And, an “ignored intolerance” is an insistence to not self-love. (Benhayon, 2011, p.618)

Poverty is a consciousness. It is a form of inactivity that is founded by a victim mentality to hide the lack of committing to life in full. (Benhayon, 2011, p.286)

Anorexia is a problem of self-worth – the feeling of not being worthy enough to even figure on earth. Bulimia = non-acceptance. It is an act that symbolises that they cannot stomach how things are. (Benhayon, 2011, p.614)

What you do not want to remember most in your dementia is the fact you gave up on yourself. (Benhayon, 2011, p.588)

Brain tumours are the residues of our un-expressed truths. They are the made manifest of uncommunicated energy. (Benhayon, 2011, p.592)

Sleeplessness is the reflection of the abuse of daily life. (Benhayon, 2011, p.622)

Stillness is the energy that is honouring you as a woman. Become racy and or driven and you have asked male energy to dominate your body. Looking like a woman but being run by a male energy is not the whole and true you. This is the widespread problem with women since the eighties. Will women stop and listen to this teaching or will breast and ovarian cancer along with so many other complications need to get so bad that they are forced to pay attention to it. (Benhayon, 2011, p.544)

Postnatal depression is the disconnection of the femaleness that was there only because of the pregnancy and not from her choice to be in femaleness. (Benhayon, 2011, p.525)

Lack of self-nurturing is now a significant global problem and in particular for women, as it is the actual energetic cause of breast cancer and its ill rise in our societies everywhere. (Benhayon, 2011, p.518)

Women have achieved equality, in some measure, by ‘out-male-ing’ the man. Therefore, they too, are in the excessiveness of male energy. This why there are so many cases of ovarian cancer, fibroids, cysts, endometriosis, breast cancer, etc. (Benhayon, 2011, p.519)

A stroke is the end result of an investment in things being a certain way –  it is the need to put out how you personally want others or things to be. When it does not occur in accordance to how you needed it to be, the body reacts suddenly to the needed investment not feeding it back the need it needed. This is how we get strokes. (Benhayon, 2011, p.572)

Anxiousness, along with exhaustion, is another one of our undiagnosed worldwide plagues. Anxiousness comes form knowing that you are not equipped to deal with what is ahead of you. And you cannot deal with what is ahead of you if you are not with you. (Benhayon, 2011, p.581)

Incontinence is caused by you not dealing with your long-term anxiousness. (Benhayon, 2011, p.609)

Withdraw from life in any way and you will have invited ill mental health. (Benhayon, 2011, p.581)

The root of all depression comes from an exhausted body. (Benhayon, 2011, p.606)

All forms of psychosis begin with a very conscious and deliberate choice to withdraw from committing to life’s responsibilities. (Benhayon, 2011, p.615)

It is through these lower three chakras that the consciousness of the astral discarnates enters and influences thought…Schizophrenia is the result of such over-stimulation from the solar centre. The over-stimulation is caused by an excess in entity activity, allowing the discarnates access and control over their host. Recognition of this will go a long way to helping those that are not too far gone. The multi-personality syndrome is true, but it occurs because there is a multiple range of discarnates accessing and expressing through the incarnate’s vehicle using his or her lower-mind via the lower three centres. Knowledge of this will one day be the accepted norm. (Benhayon, 2006, p.371)

All autistic conditions in their many varying degrees and others such as Down syndrome, where there is a lesser form of a natural expression, come from abuse of one’s position in a former life. Those who hold positions of authority and thus the force to inflict suppression, destruction, corruption and other forms of retardation to the natural manner in which each spirit uses life to evolve back to Soul, will incur such Karma. No one can escape this aspect of the Law of Cause and Effect. (Benhayon, 2011, p.151)

A mental and or physical disability is the karma of controlling other people for self-gain. (Benhayon, 2011, p.302)

Heart disease happens because you don’t love, because you don’t express lovingly and because you hold back and do not let others truly love you. (Benhayon, 2011, p.587)

Heart disease is forever the marker of our choice to not be love in all that we do and say. (Benhayon, 2011, p.601)

Cancer is created by the excessive build up of a particular emotion we do not move on from, hence why we have so many differing cancers. (Benhayon, 2011, p.622)

Simple isn’t it? Developing disease is a ‘choice’.

See link for a complimentary but alternate view about one particular quote above:

    • Darkly Venus says:

Ha! Now I feel like a bum for not linking to your post, and it really is an important read.

The above is simply more evidence of Benhayon’s fascism and the cult’s attempts to control the thoughts of followers, and demonize the Esoterically incorrect in order to secure domination – ideally world domination as has been stated in Benhayon’s loony tracts. The judgemental pronouncements are an indication of the violence already occurring in this cult. Followers are harming themselves and loved ones for Benhayon’s lethally elitist ideal of purity. The Esoteric goon squad is scheming as we speak to suppress information and have shown they are prepared to abuse the legal process and the right to free speech to have us silenced. They’ve lumped the world’s population outside UM together as ignorant and loveless oppressors – members of the Astral cult. Given access to a firing squad the hard core would line up to pull the trigger – on all of us.

The hate is on a par with the worst fascist regimes and they have the gall to call themselves, as Lieutenant Dr Rachel Hall does, ‘lovers of humanity’.

I’m following this with a post on the Accountability site about Universal Medicine’s sickness – and how the fascism extends to an elitist Esoteric expression of disease. Again, the cult’s attempt to control human expression to the point of having politically correct terminal illness and an Esoterically correct death and rebirth is more oppression, subjugating victims to Benhayon’s dominance – to the death and beyond.

That’s how power hungry the bastard is. He’s not content to take everything away from followers in this life – their health, relationships, dignity, assets, thoughts, feelings – he’s attempting to tyrannize their hopes for future lifetimes as well.

  2. SERGE SAYS ‘heart disease happens because you don’t love’ and it must be TRUTH because he says so. In fact, it’s more than truth, it’s a religion that explains everything, which makes it SCIENCE!!

Isn’t that right Christoph Schnelle? Serge says so and a physicist once said everything is energy, and the only people who took it seriously were New Agers seeking to legitimize their bullshit, and the cult doctors think Serge was PYTHAGORAS, so that makes his teachings SCIENCE.

Especially when he says the energy of the astral discarnates enters the lower chakras and causes schizophrenia.

    SCIENCE!

Now just for comparison to see how Benhayon’s channeling from the Ascended Masters compares with Louise Hay, who is channeling the NASDAQ index, Louise Hay says the heart represents ‘the centre of love and security’ and that heart problems are caused by ‘Longstanding emotional problems. Lack of Joy. Hardening of the Heart.’ My goodness it’s ama-zing how accurate channeling is – when 2 multi-millionaires channel identical WISDOM®.

I quoted this already at UMA, but speaking of fascists, how does this quote from Louise Hay differ from Nazism, when she says victims of the holocaust deserved their fate – no doubt for being oppressors in their hypothetical past lives?

When I asked her if, since people’s thoughts are responsible for their conditions, victims of genocide might be to blame for their own deaths, she said: “I probably wouldn’t say it to them. I don’t go around making people feel bad. That’s not what I’m after.” I pressed harder: Did she believe they are to blame? “Yes, I think there’s a lot of karmic stuff that goes on, past lives.” So, I asked, with a situation like the Holocaust, the victims might have been an unfortunate group of souls who deserved what they got because of their behavior in past lives? “Yes, it can work that way,” Hay said. “But that’s just my opinion.”

Not only did the victims deserve to be ‘cleansed’ probably due to sins – like being angry, or having a hard heart – she’s defined via channeling, but she implies she is a purer soul, with purer thoughts and exemplary emotional management, therefore more deserving of health, long life and good fortune.

    Pity about the hate.

  3. Anonymous says:

Louise Hay may want to examine the copyrights on her material, seems her ideas are being passed off without acknowledgement by Benhayon. I seem to recall someone posting on RRF that the Lucifer Trust (the foundation that represents the estate of Alice Bailey) issued a cease and desist order against Benhayon and further mentions of her, and him being reincarnated from her, became less? Does anyone else know anything about this?

    • Darkly Venus says:

Yes, Richard wrote about the cease and desist order from the Lucis trust here: http://universalmedicinecult.wordpress.com/2013/02/11/the-ancient-wisdom-that-never-was/

Unfortunately I didn’t note where it was mentioned on the RRF.

I should point out the only originality in Serge’s work is his tendency to push a lot of borrowed ideas to fundamentalist extremes. What he hasn’t borrowed from Alice Bailey’s writings comes from yoga theory (chakras, karma, detachment) and traditional Chinese Medicine organ theory (the raving about Kidney energy, hardening of the Liver, Spleen cycles etc.)

I can actually hear ex acupuncturist Neil Ringe talking him through it.

And thanks for pointing out the irony of the cult hitting me with false copyright infringement claims, when at no point had I tried to pass their work off as my own.

    • Darkly Venus says:

I meant to add that it’s unlikely Hay House would go after Serge because Hay’s ideas weren’t that original to start with. Imagine if she and serge started crapping on about ‘channelling’ their ‘wisdom’ in court.

Apart from the New Age being an incestuous pit of unimaginative parasites, copyright infringement is quite hard to prove – no matter how many bogus takedown notices the cult throws at me.

My understanding of the Lucis trust case is that they succeeded in getting Sergio to stop using the ‘Arcane School’ in his publicity. Word is, Sergio was outraged they sent a legal cease and desist letter, because he thought Bailey and Lucis was all about goodwill. In other words, he thought he could cash in on plagiarizing Alice Bailey’s material all the way down to copying her books’ cover art.

Hypocritical little putz. Like the goodwill in his gentle and loving FALSE copyright and trademark infringement claims against me. LOL

  4. You know whos brother who know unlike the cult members read other things before enduring Serge's shonk offs. says:

What happened to Richard BTW? He’s been quiet for a while..

The new age blame game is a slippery slope. I think I mentioned it before, but I am a reformed mystic/new age sympathizer. When I think back on it I realize I was in a self-induced trance, spotting patterns and connections all over the place. A car cutting me off and nearly driving me off a cliff was a chance for me to reflect on my state of mind that day…

The suddenly reality came into sharp focus. Actually I’ve always had two minds. The rational, scientific one and the one just described. I really started to come out of the swoon when I became more aware of Serge’s shite. His plagiarized and artless crap was a hard slap back to reality. I read it was my jaw slack thinking “how can anyone be sucked in by this third rate ripped off rubbish!” I had read a lot of stuff and could see his sources and how badly he had re-interpreted them to suit himself, and to put himself at the center of the story. I also knew he had spent time with another small time spiritual healer out of Melbourne and that many of the ideas were borrowed from him (now passed to the fifth dimension) THERE IS NOTHING SERGE HAS WRITTEN OR SAID THAT IS NOT AVAILABLE SOMEWHERE ELSE. He is not imaginative enough to come up with original ideas, and worst of all, he takes ideas better expressed and puts them through his word mangler to end up with a steaming pile of garble.

I had seen the dangerous and inexorable fuzzy logic of new age thinking and where it leads- to self-recriminations, doubt, unreasonable expectations, vulnerability to exploitation. Which ever way I was thinking I have always been sure the path to truth is solitary. Serge’s group-think is very dangerous because it informs the need for conformity, even while they call claim to be free to think and decide as they like ( yet speak the same words, write the same sentences, repeat Serge’s twee metaphors, write with his voice, look the same, eat the same, walk the same, listen to the same music and stay in the same puddle of denial) IT IS LETHAL IN THAT THE PREMISE OF NEW AGE THINKING IS THAT ALL CONSEQUENCE IS A RESULT OF THOUGHTS. I could write an essay on why this is demonstrable nonsense. But not today.

There are things you can change with your thinking of course, but not the things claimed by Serge and the rat pack new ageists. And of course it leads to blaming the handicapped, the sick, the poor, the starving, the victims- which Serge excels at, whether is starting Africans or someone who has been murdered. It’s inevitable destination is evil.

Snake oil salesmen have just changed their names and pitch. The thirst for a panacea and someone who can tell you all has never changed. Like those before him, Serge is just selling re labelled concoctions and hoping not to get caught out before he makes his fortune. In every sense, he is a rip off merchant. And he doesnt care if you end up hating yourself providing he makes money.

  5. Richard was ill earlier this year, apparently, but we reckon he was lovesick for his new squeeze. Dark horse, he is. 😉

Venus, you forgot to mention Serge cashing in on the Law of Attraction tripe, according to which Serge and his propaganda brides deserve all the curry we’re giving them because according to the LOA you attract what you put out, LOL.

And we’ll be giving them more – in spades, with a few ‘fuck you’s thrown in to even the score.

It’s worth reminding readers that noxious crap quoted above, apart from being treated as Sacred Science by Serge’s investors, comes with the endorsement of the cult doctors, psychologists (LOL) and other health professionals.

AND while normal human responses to life’s circumstances are claimed to give you cancer, any number of other hideous diseases and demerit points on Benhayon’s disembodiment scale, it’s fine to grope the genitals of sexual abuse victims, and if you teach it as HEALING, you’re so admired for your integrity, you get to start your own tax free CHURCH.

  6. You know whos brother who 'd like to warn you to avoid having your head done in, but you'll ignore anyway. says:

Planning on blowing another $1800 to have your noodle scrambled? The retreats are up for sale again.

And here’s a little taste of what is in store for you when you get there:

“At this point it needs to be said that we are by choice and not by chance very far down the type of order here revealed, but nonetheless, we are inescapably part of the schematics that make the order the order by the living of the science that is and the science we are. That aside, and it being part of our particular form of evolution due to our choice to descend from where we were, we are to know that the Universe is an order that is ‘ordered’ by way of vibrational development, which in turn is governed by the Law of Free-Will, which then forms the Laws of Constellation and the laws and sciences of Reflection that pertain to the Laws of Constellation.

… a crucial fact that explains almost everything that takes place in our world. This simply means that time, human life, all that it entails, and the planet we live on, are all ‘creations’ that help us to re-learn or remember that we are to co-create and not create. This last sentence has a very direct and pertinent meaning to you and all that you are, and will be.”

That’s right…meaningless gibberish. Designed to mess with your head. But if you want that to happen, book right here: https://study.universalmedicine.com.au/civicrm/event/info?reset=1&id=333

Meantime, at the cult member posts, they are busy obfuscating truth with wordy treatises that are meant to sound intelligent and rational but lack both qualities. Here’s a taste of what happens to your thinking once you’ve had some time at Serge’s retreats. http://www.truthaboutuniveralmedicine.com

At this ironically named blog there’s a great new post by E. Walsh, their new in-house amateur philosopher who mangles logic in a way that even Serge would be proud of. It goes like this:
Science can be wrong, sometimes. So therefore Serge is right, right. Plato for some reason is mentioned, ignoring hundreds of other philosophers and modern psychology and hey presto, Serge’s craziness is justified.

It all makes sense. But only if you book into one of Serge’s retreats. get bamboozled, love bombed, get up early, stay up late, dance esoterically, eat little, chant, sing, get hypnotized and walk out saying ” Serge, he’s a man of utter integrity. Amazing. So Joyful. Smoking. I won’t play ball with that. Step up. You’re a bully. You’re imposing. I am just being in my truth. Detractor”

    The show rolls on.

  7. Lost in Space says:

I have found another parallel to the UM cult, on Esther and Lances other secret site, Wikipedia no less.
Look up Lost in Space, the TV classic about a family and a couple of other tag alongs, lost on planet when their space ship crashed. The cast photo looks just like the benhayon family photos, whose lives are straight from the science fiction genre created and directed by Serge, the expedition commander. They are all supposed geniuses and child prodigies with IQ’s in the 150’s. They spend their days surviving on space rations and battling bad space monsters who are always out to get them. Dr Zachary Smith isn’t much help, always putting his foot in it. Thank goodness for the robot warning the family of constant danger.
The Benhayons are a family lost in space ( between Serges ears) on the spaceship UM. Ditch the love in with sexy Natalie tv and go for a reality big brother series I reckon. Don’t forget the German and Vietnamese subtitles.
